Name: Fred "Connord" Wayne Matthews Date: April 5th, 1944 - March 7th, 2010 Obituary: Fred “Connord” Wayne Matthews, 65, of Catawba, died Sunday, March 7, 2010 at his residence. He was born April 5, 1944 in Catawba County to the late Fred Flate Matthews and Helen Kate Head Matthews. Fred worked many different jobs, and was considered a “Jack of all trades.” In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marcella Rose Matthews Busbin. Mr. Matthews is survived by his wife of 23 ½ years, Donna Phillips Matthews; daughters, Melissa Matthews Averett and husband Cameron, Amanda Sue Matthews, and Pamela Matthews Clawson and husband Anthony, all of Catawba; sons, Fred Wayne Matthews, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Denver, Jeffrey Scott Matthews and wife Pamela of Conover, and Jason Scott Matthews of Catawba; grandchildren, Jada Grace Matthews, Michaela Sue Matthews, Isaiah Matthews, Ruskin Dellinger, Mara Matthews, Raven Clawson, Logan Clawson, and Camden Averett; brother, Thomas Larry Matthews and wife Jean of Catawba; and brother-in-law, Charles Busbin of GA. A Service of Remembrance will be held 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010 in the Chapel of Drum Funeral Home in Conover with Rev. Steve Clark officiating. Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in Providence Cemetery in Catawba. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:15 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
